Our last full day in Devon and probably ever at Beverley but more about that later.
Had a little bit of a read this morning as I woke up before anyone else. I'm pleased to say the sun was shining although it was only a matter of time before a heavy shower set in.
We spent the money tidying up and packing what we could. I have no idea how it will all go back into the car. We have not brought much whilst here but it will be like a giant jigsaw puzzle in the morning I expect.
Had lunch at Ashvale and I must confess to being pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. I was a little bit naughty though and had a slice of lemon meringue pie with ice cream for pudding. I'm afraid to say it is a bit of a soft spot of mine.
After dinner we drove to Buckfastleigh for a trip on the South Devon steam railway. I am a bit sad really in admitting I love Steam Trains and really enjoyed it. We did not disembark at the other end though and simply went back to Buckfastleigh. I saw a heron, the first I've ever seen in the wild.
We popped into the museum at Buckfastleigh station and also to the shop which would be a model train makers heaven. After that it was back to the car and the short trip round to Buckfast Abbey.
I don't know why because I am not the religious type really but I find the abbey fascinating. I brought a couple of bits in the shop there too. A bone china mug for mum and some rose smellies for myself. After that we came back to the lodge and had a sandwich and a sit down.
This evening we went up to the ballroom for a couple of hours. In all the years I have been coming here it has not changed at all. We got our compulsory game of bingo in and watched the kids disco dancing competition. We came back just before 10pm. None of us are night time people really and besides, we want to be away by 0930 tomorrow morning.
